"Birdy" is also a well-regulated movie where Parker knows how to sustain the interest in the past sequences as well as present sequences (Birdy's room hospital). The script is original, clever, moving, beautifully written. This is a film of music, not about it, and one of the most extraordinary things about it is that we are really, literally, hearing Parker on the soundtrack.

In 1975, he won the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished criticism. Birdy … The type of movie that gets under your skin and stays with you for days - the images -visually/musically are truly haunting and quite moving.
The German critic Barbara Schweizerhof gave the film a 4 out of 5 possible stars, complimenting the director's satirical virtuosity in making the film.

You will not discover anything new about war in this movie, but you will find out a whole lot about how it feels to be in love with a canary. most recommended to people who liked Midnight express or the wall. In the last split second, we find out. She insists she be called by her “given” name of Though the film gives us milestones from Lady Bird’s coming of age, its key preoccupation is the jagged relationship between Lady Bird and her mother Marion (However, it is Gerwig’s tidy pacing, vividly drawn characters (see Timothée Chalamet’s bit-part as a floppy-haired mobile phone sceptic who smokes roll-ups and “trying as much as possible not to participate in our economy”), and eye for period detail (like her use of the Dave Matthews Band) that mark her as a keen observer of the small things that make a good movie great. I have had this movie for years and had only watched it in FF, just to know how it felt... And I never felt really attracted to watch it. I can't believe I took so long to get round to seeing this AMAZING FILM! (I was flipping through the channels one quiet evening at home when I stumbled across this picture, "Birdy.") It's such a great growing-up buddy flick.
Modine brings a gentle sensibility to the title role of a bird lover so traumatized that he no longer speaks or acknowledges anyone. Those who say detracting things about the ending must not get it, must not have been paying attention! Best scene: Modine's flight dream; best emotional scene: the death of his beloved prize canary.
